True security comes from within -Pres. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud

Somalia is rising from the ashes and taking its rightful place on the world stage. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud took to the UN podium to share a powerful message of hope, hard work, and resilience. He outlined how his country is successfully rebuilding its security forces and government institutions after years of devastating conflict.

“We are proving that with determination, stability is possible,” President Mohamud noted, pointing to Somalia’s steady, undeniable progress. He emphasized that true security comes from within, but the international community must be a reliable partner in that journey. “Our progress in institution-building is a foundation for our future, but we cannot thrive in a world where multilateral trust is broken,” he explained.

He warned that the world is rapidly losing faith in the global system. For the United Nations to work, countries must trust it, and that requires applying rules fairly across the globe without double standards.

To highlight this urgent need for global fairness, he firmly stood by the people of Palestine. He reiterated Somalia’s strong support for a two-state solution, stating that lasting peace in the Middle East requires justice and an independent Palestinian state. His message was clear: whether in the Horn of Africa or the Middle East, global peace requires a multilateral system that actually works for everyone, not just a select few. By connecting Somalia’s domestic success with the need for a fair global order, he painted a picture of a nation demanding that institutions like the UN finally live up to their founding promises.
