{"id":1192,"date":"2026-05-26T11:06:37","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T11:06:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/acalanau.org\/?post_type=news&#038;p=1192"},"modified":"2026-05-26T11:06:40","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T11:06:40","slug":"ghana-e-visa-system-africa-day-visa-fees-africans","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/acalanau.org\/fr\/news\/ghana-e-visa-system-africa-day-visa-fees-africans\/","title":{"rendered":"Africa Day 2026: Ghana Removes Visa Fees for African Passport Holders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ACCRA &#8211; President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched Ghana\u2019s first-ever electronic visa platform, introducing a new visa regime that exempts all African passport holders from paying visa fees when travelling to Ghana for business and tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The launch, held on Africa Day, is being hailed as a major step towards promoting African integration, free movement across the continent and Ghana\u2019s vision of becoming a leading hub for trade, tourism and investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/acalanau.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/gh.webp?resize=683%2C1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1205\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.6669965939856191;width:357px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/acalanau.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/gh.webp?resize=683%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 683w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/acalanau.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/gh.webp?resize=200%2C300&amp;ssl=1 200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/acalanau.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/gh.webp?resize=768%2C1151&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/acalanau.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/gh.webp?resize=1025%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 1025w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/acalanau.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/gh.webp?w=1366&amp;ssl=1 1366w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking at the launch in Accra, President Mahama described the initiative as a significant milestone in Ghana\u2019s efforts to build a modern, efficient and globally competitive economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, the e-Visa platform will allow travellers to apply online, upload supporting documents electronically, make secure digital payments and receive travel authorization via email or mobile phones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis initiative reflects our determination to position Ghana as a forward-looking nation that leverages technology to improve governance, facilitate legitimate travel, deepen continental integration and strengthen national security,\u201d President Mahama stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The President stressed that while Ghana remains open and welcoming, security checks would remain stringent. He explained that the platform is integrated with Ghana\u2019s Advance Passenger Information and Passenger Name Record systems as well as international crime and watch-list databases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, described the e-Visa platform as \u201ca new machine for Ghana,\u201d saying the system would remove unnecessary barriers, delays and uncertainty associated with traditional visa processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are telling the world Ghana is open for business, ready for tourism and global participation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa noted that many international travellers and investors had complained about cumbersome visa procedures, prompting government to overhaul the system as part of President Mahama\u2019s \u201cGhana Open for Business\u201d agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor the first time in our country\u2019s history, no fees for Africans. Fees totally scrapped,\u201d Ablakwa announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that the policy aligns with the African Union\u2019s Agenda 2063 vision and honours the Pan-African ideals of Ghana\u2019s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Government says the e-Visa system guarantees visa decisions within 48 hours and is expected to boost tourism, intra-African trade and investment under the African Continental Free Trade Area framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"476\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 848 \/ 476;\" width=\"848\" controls src=\"https:\/\/acalanau.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/WhatsApp-Video-2026-05-25-at-4.19.00-PM.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Prez.
