More than a decade ago, the African Union launched Agenda 2063\u2014a roadmap for transforming Africa into a peaceful, prosperous and integrated continent driven by its people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The vision is bold: a continent with stronger economies, better opportunities, improved governance and a stronger voice on the global stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But achieving this vision depends on one important question: Does Africa have the institutions needed to deliver the Africa it wants?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Strong institutions are the foundation of successful societies. They build trust, promote accountability, support development and ensure that policies become actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For Africa, this means strengthening institutions at every level\u2014continental, regional and national.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The African Union and its organs, including the Pan-African Parliament, play an important role in coordinating Africa\u2019s shared priorities and encouraging cooperation among Member States. African Union Pan-African Parliament<\/p>\n\n\n\n But institutions are only effective when they connect with citizens and deliver results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Across Africa, people continue to demand solutions to everyday challenges: jobs for young people, quality education, reliable healthcare, safer communities, affordable food and easier opportunities to trade and move across borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meeting these challenges requires institutions that are not only strong but also accountable. Citizens must understand how decisions are made, participate in shaping policies and trust that leaders are acting in the public interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Agenda 2063 is not only a government responsibility. It is a people-centred vision that requires the involvement of young people, businesses, civil society, communities and the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Communication is also critical. Institutions that citizens do not understand cannot fully serve them. African languages, local media and public education must play a bigger role in bringing continental goals closer to communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The success of Africa\u2019s integration will depend on whether institutions can move from promises to performance. Citizens will not measure Agenda 2063 by the number of meetings held or documents produced. They will measure it by whether their lives improve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Africa We Want will not happen automatically.
