Africa\u2019s economic transformation will ultimately be judged by one generation: its young people.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first Moonshot of Agenda 2063 has a clear target: by 2033, every African Union member state should attain at least middle-income status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there is a question behind the numbers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happens to Africa\u2019s young people along the way?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A country can record economic growth without creating enough decent jobs. It can attract investment without building local skills. It can increase exports while millions of young people remain locked out of productive opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is not the kind of prosperity Agenda 2063 ultimately envisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jobs must be part of the growth story<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Africa needs economies that create productive work at scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That means investing in industries capable of employing large numbers of people \u2014 manufacturing, agro-processing, construction, digital services, tourism, creative industries, energy and emerging technology sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also means preparing young Africans for the jobs that will exist tomorrow rather than only training them for yesterday\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan connects Moonshot 1 with economic transformation, agricultural productivity, industrialisation and improved living conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Skills are economic infrastructure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Africa often talks about roads, ports, electricity and broadband as infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But skills are infrastructure too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A modern factory needs technicians. A satellite programme needs engineers. A digital economy needs programmers and cybersecurity specialists. Modern agriculture needs agronomists, technicians and entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without the people to operate and improve new systems, investment can create dependence instead of transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is why education, technical training and entrepreneurship need to be treated as central parts of Africa\u2019s economic strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From job seekers to wealth creators<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Africa\u2019s young population is often described as a challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It can also be one of the continent\u2019s greatest economic advantages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If young Africans have the skills, finance, infrastructure and markets they need, they can become producers, entrepreneurs, engineers, farmers, researchers and technology creators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is the deeper meaning of prosperity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moonshot 1 is not simply about moving countries into a statistical income category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is about building economies where Africans can produce more, earn more, create more and own more of the value they create.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

By 2033, Africa should not only be asking whether its economies became richer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It should be asking whether its people became more economically
