Africa\u2019s young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow. They are citizens with a role to play in shaping the institutions and decisions that affect their lives today.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Africa\u2019s population becoming increasingly young, the continent\u2019s future will depend partly on how effectively young people participate in public life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is closely connected to Agenda 2063 Moonshot 3: Good Governance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Moonshot seeks stronger democratic institutions, respect for human rights, the rule of law and greater accountability across Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But good governance cannot be built by governments alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Young people have a voice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Young Africans are already using social media, community organisations, journalism, technology and entrepreneurship to engage with public issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are asking questions about jobs, education, corruption, climate change, digital rights and the use of public resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This participation matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A healthy democracy needs citizens who are willing to ask questions, demand transparency and contribute ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From complaints to participation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Young people can also contribute beyond criticism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They can join community initiatives, participate in local decision-making, monitor public projects, support civic education and use technology to improve public services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Digital platforms are creating new ways for citizens to communicate with governments and each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technology can make it easier to access information, report problems and follow how public resources are being used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But digital participation also comes with responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Citizens need to verify information before sharing it, reject misinformation and engage in public debate respectfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building trust together<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Good governance depends on trust between citizens and institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governments must listen to citizens and remain accountable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Citizens, in turn, have a responsibility to participate constructively and respect democratic processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Young people are particularly important to this relationship because they will live longest with the decisions being made today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their participation can help build institutions that reflect the needs of a changing Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Africa We Want<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Agenda 2063’s vision of good governance is ultimately about creating societies where citizens have a meaningful voice and institutions work for the public good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That future will not arrive simply because a policy document says it should.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It must be built through everyday participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Africa\u2019s young people have the energy, ideas and technology to help shape that future.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Africa We Want needs young citizens who do not simply wait for change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It needs young Africans who participate, innovate, question, lead and help build institutions they can
