Historically, Africa has been treated merely as a source of raw materials or a consumer market for technologies built overseas. Ethiopia\u2019s President Taye Atske Selassie took the stage in New York to champion digital sovereignty as a core pillar of Africa\u2019s Agenda 2063. Rather than waiting for Western powers to establish the rules of AI governance, he stressed the absolute necessity of “ensuring that the Global South leads the technological revolution”.<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n President Taye highlighted concrete domestic actions already underway, pointing out that Africa is not just asking for a seat at the table; it is building the capacity to sit there.
