BAMAKO, MALI
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, visited the offices of the African Union Mission for Mali and the Sahel (MISAHEL) in Bamako earlier this week, reaffirming the African Union’s continued commitment to peace, stability, dialogue and sustainable development in Mali and the wider Sahel region.
During the visit, the AU Commission Chairperson was received by MISAHEL’s High Representative, H.E. Mamadou Tangara, alongside members of the Mission’s staff.
Mahmoud Ali Youssouf expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and praised the professionalism, dedication and commitment of MISAHEL personnel in carrying out the African Union’s mandate in Mali and across the Sahel.
He noted that the visit reflected the AU’s enduring solidarity with the Government and people of Mali, while also demonstrating the Commission’s support for MISAHEL as it works to advance peacebuilding efforts, promote dialogue and contribute to regional stability.
The AU Commission Chairperson highlighted the importance of MISAHEL’s role in supporting the African Union’s engagement in the Sahel, a region facing complex security, humanitarian and development challenges.
For his part, MISAHEL High Representative Mamadou Tangara, speaking on behalf of the Mission’s staff, thanked Chairperson Youssouf for the visit, describing it as a strong expression of the African Union Commission’s commitment to MISAHEL and the fulfilment of its mandate.
The visit forms part of the African Union’s continued engagement with Mali and the Sahel region, as the continental body works with national and regional stakeholders to support lasting peace, stability and sustainable development.
