Our Voices, Our Future: Two Women’s Journey into African Language Media under Agenda 2063

We arrived in Bamako for a training on African Languages Media, organized by the African Academy of Languages under the African Union. It is part of the ACALAN-AU Media Initiative.

We were curious. But we were also unsure of what to expect.

We believed in our languages. But we had not seen their full power in professional media.

This changed from the first days of training.

We entered the studio. We spoke into the microphone in Bambara. Something changed in us.

What felt normal before now felt powerful.

Through the ACALAN-AU Media approach, we began to see our language differently. It was not only for daily communication. It was also a tool for education, storytelling, and development.

We learned new skills during the sessions. But we also gained confidence.

We learned how to structure programs. We learned how to tell clear and meaningful stories. We also learned how to connect our work to development goals.

The ACALAN-AU Media framework helped us link our work to continental priorities.

We realized something important. African languages are key to Agenda 2063. This vision is about an Africa that is united, prosperous, and led by its people.

We also learned that Bambara is spoken in several countries. This made us believe even more in the reach of our voices.

With radio and media, we can reach many people. We can teach, inform, and inspire them. We can do this in languages they understand best.

This experience changed how we see ourselves.

We are no longer only trainees. We are storytellers in the ACALAN-AU Media movement.

We are part of Africa’s future. We are part of a generation using language as a bridge. It connects people. It shares culture. It supports development.

Going forward, we will continue to create content in the ACALAN-AU Media space. Our content will reflect real lives and real experiences.

It will also support the goals of Agenda 2063.

Because for us, Africa’s future will not only be written. It will be spoken. In our own voices.
